Almost Home

We’re almost at the end of Menorca for 2014. So here are a few more pictures of Menorca life until next year. Enjoy.

On some evenings the Scops Owl comes for a close look at us just as we're enjoying a glass of wine.

Scops Owl

The common lark in these parts is the crested Thekla Lark. It makes a change from the humble UK Skylark.

Adding a little interest to the sunbathing are regular sightings of ringed Audouin's Gulls.

Or watching the local Kestrel watching us from on high.

Spring in Menorca is just wonderful for seeing and painting the wild flowers.

 Menorca Poppies

A walk to the local shops even involves a spot of birding.

Spotted Flycatcher

Now that's what I call a Menorca walk.

  4. The Andouin's Gull looks especially handsome. I'll have to check their range to see whether I have a chance in northern Spain in July.

  6. Bird-watching in style! Glass of wine in hand and the Owl just flies up to you!

I saw the Tawny Owl when I was living in London but never a Scops. Looking it up on Wikipedia has told me it is migratory, which I wouldn't have considered for an owl.

    Looks like a great holiday!

  7. Almost welcome home Phil and Sue ;) Those horses, that long walk path, oh that would be grand and so beautiful an area too. The Scops Owl is a beauty...can hardly wait for you to see my post from last week! I am with Christian Perrin on the migration of this owl...WOW, the things we learn. All other image shares makes for a splendid post~

  13. What a view while drinking wine. I could do that!! Not stare at you as the owl, but drink wine.

Another great post. Didn't know you were on a trip...but, did miss you.

...and you missed a saga of Bud and me chartering a boat out to sea, a couple weeks ago, hired a boat and its 'captain' to take us out to see the elusive brown booby. I got pictures galore.

  16. I had missed your trip, just like many other posts in the last 2 months or so. The pictures are great.

More than the birds, I am finding the scenic beauty alluring. It provides some respite in the hot and dry north Indian summer. If you ever wanted to visit India, this is not the right time :-)

  18. I also can't stop birding wherever I am and some of the urban places will still surprise me if I find interesting birds.

This is such a great place for a vacation, Phil. Lucky you. :)
