We have jackrabbits here. Some are as large as fawns but you know, everything is bigger in Texas ;) Have a wonder-filled week!Inspired By Junehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09846209740481251443noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4526180646938954660.post-39377083824031933212018-02-28T17:47:07.810+00:002018-02-28T17:47:07.810+00:00awww.. the poor little Chaffinches.... always some...awww.. the poor little Chaffinches.... always something or other isn't it? .... how do any of the birds and animals survive....BumbleVeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13272892605379537233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4526180646938954660.post-40660990620658271632018-02-27T18:55:34.442+00:002018-02-27T18:55:34.442+00:00I'm glad your beautiful yard birds are making ...I'm glad your beautiful yard birds are making their way back. (Always so envious of your goldfinch, as opposed to 'ours' which I always thought were beautiful until I learned about their British cousin.) We used to have a soggy backyard every winter when we had our home in Oregon (previous life)... but it is supposed to rain a lot there in the winter and we always had birds (and an excuse not to work in the yard). Black swans are certainly photogenic ... there's a Lake kind of near us that we've visited ... theirs are Australian imports (on purpose). <br />Thank you for the information about hares (vs rabbits) here and on your comment on mine - - I didn't really realize that they weren't the same thing as brown rabbits. House Finches (especially) and American Goldfinches are prone to conjunctivitis, impairing their vision considerably in some cases. I suspect that several of the goldfinches taken by a Sharp-shinned Hawk in my yard were probably suffering from this condition; hence were relatively easy prey for a swift and stealthy hawk. David M.
